Blade Runner wasn’t even a hit, when it originally came out in June 1982. But this didn’t stop it to become arguably the most cinematically significant science fiction film since Metropolis in 1927. It is a dismal, philosophical fairy tale with mind-boggling sets, sophisticated lighting design and a grandiose score by Vangelis. One could label Blade Runner “post-modern” or atribute its power to director’s eclecticism. Scott’s mesmerizing layering technique showcases his knack for integrating architectural elements, the intricacies of clothing articles, and symbols originating from a wide array of cultures and eras.
In a melange of Metropolis, film noir, the imagery of Edward Hopper and the comic book scetches of Moebius, Ridley Scott creates a wildly driven piece that demands its audience to consider the essence of human identity.

“The Final Cut, released in 2007, is the product of a process that began in early 2000 and continued off and on through seven years of intense research, meticulous restoration and technical challenges. I can now wholeheartedly say that Blade Runner: The Final Cut is my definitive director’s cut of the film.”
