After the end of World War I and the rise of fascism, the great Italian actress Eleonora Duse, now over 60, decided to return to the stage. She attempted to stage a play with the help of the young author Giacomo Rossetti Dubois, but the performance was a failure. Nevertheless, she continues to struggle with the limitations of her own body and social realities, using her art as an act of resistance.
Valeria Bruni Tedeschi’s monumental performance impresses with its depth and intensity and gives the character a unique and memorable personality.
