While travelling to Stockholm to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, Luigi Pirandello recalls important figures in his life who inspired his work. He is torn between Marta Abba, his muse and lover, and his wife Antonia Portulano, who suffers from mental illness. The film also explores his complex relationship with his children and his attitude towards fascism, presenting him as a man torn between love, family obligations and creative aspirations.
