The film offers a new and intimate interpretation of the character from Victor Hugo's classic work, Les Misérables. It focuses on the early stage of Jean Valjean's life, when he is released after nineteen years in prison and encounters normal human treatment for the first time. He finds shelter with a bishop and his family, who welcome him with kindness and compassion. This encounter marks the beginning of his inner transformation from a bitter man to someone seeking redemption and a new purpose in life.
