Park Chan-wook, director of South Korean classics such as Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, tells the story of a long-time manager at a paper factory who, after being suddenly fired, decides to eliminate his competition in order to secure work and a future for his family.

Having planned the film for years and describing it as "the project of my life," Park combines black comedy with social criticism, exploring themes such as job insecurity, automation, and the moral degradation of modern society. At the 82nd Venice Film Festival, the film received a nine-minute standing ovation, and critics called it "a sensational satire that will leave a significant mark on the Korean film industry".
