Sofia is an eight-year-old girl who spends the summer with her father and grandmother on the Gulf of Finland after the sudden death of her mother. Amidst the peaceful days by the sea, learning about nature, little adventures on the shore, and conversations with her grandmother, the image of grief gradually emerges, overwhelming each of them in their own way. The father immerses himself in work, the grandmother struggles with old age and physical limitations, and Sofia wanders between curiosity and trying to fill the void left by her mother.

The film manages to convey the feeling of loss and the delicate transition between childhood and old age without resorting to dramatic effects. One of its strongest qualities is the contrast between the heaviness of grief, the lightness of nature, and a child's perception.
