The film is based on a true story from 1977. Tony Kiritsis kidnaps his mortgage broker Richard Hall, tying him to a hunting rifle that will go off if Tony dies. He demands $5 million and a public apology from the company he holds responsible for his financial ruin.

This is a socially engaged and visually stylish work that explores themes such as media manipulation, social injustice and the moral ambivalence of the characters.
