The film is inspired by Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and tells the story of a brave princess who travels through time and space, following her transformation from royalty into a warrior. Hosoda, known for his ability to create strong female heroines and explore themes of family, identity, and change, states that he aims to create a completely new visual style of animation. The original Japanese voice cast includes Mana Ashida, Masaki Okada, and Koji Yakusho.

 


The legendary Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda is one of two directors whose films have been nominated twice for an "Oscar" for Best Animated Feature (alongside Hayao Miyazaki).
